First Responder’s Award – Nottoway

The Heartland is full of caring and dedicated citizens, tirelessly working to make life better for those who call this home.  Each year, all of the emergency services calls from across Virginia are reviewed and the absolute best examples of first responders cooperating with multiple agencies get selected for recognition.  This year, Nottoway County, VA first responders were honored with a statewide 2025 Governor’s Fire Service Award for “Outstanding Volunteer Fire Department Response”. They were specifically recognized for their swift, collaborative response to a severe head-on collision on Kenbridge Road (Rt. 40) involving multiple entrapments and medevac helicopters.

Nottoway County Emergency Services said on Facebook, “We are very proud of our Fire & EMS departments in Nottoway County, as they were all recipients of the Governor’s Fire Service Award for Outstanding Fire Department Response. Blackstone Volunteer Fire Department was the primary agency on the incident with our other agencies supporting them, including three helicopter crews.”
